7 must watch movies for every Media Student

 7 Must Watch Movies for Media Students;

Audio Visual method is the best method to understand any given topic who else know this better than a media practitioner or a media student so here are “top 7 Indian movies which a media student must watch”

·         1. Peepli live| https://youtu.be/ht0-gqvFor0

A farmer family in the fictional but actually very real village of Peepli is in trouble when they find out that they are going to lose the only thing they own: a piece of land, owing to a failure to repay a loan. The men of the family, Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) and his brother, Budhia (Raghubir Yadav), go to the local politician Bhai Thakur (Sitaram Panchal) for help, where instead they are treated with such apathy and condescension that one of the politicians actually suggests that maybe they should consider suicide. A new Government scheme pays a sum of one lakh to the family of a farmer who has committed suicide as compensation. It’s meant as a joke a cruel one but Natha’s situation is so dire that it actually starts seeming like the only solution for his miseries.

Even in otherwise well-made films and series–the recent pataal lok calls to mind–the depiction of the TRP-hungry Indian news media is cartoonish and too on-the-nose. Peepli Live’s observations on the media are incisive, which it shows missing out on other stories because it focusses all its energies on one that’s well past its expiry date.

I recommend this movie for those students who are working or willing to work for agencies /NGOs doing social work for farmers.

                 2. Talvar | https://youtu.be/aQNMsw8Ljjc

Talvar movie is based on the 2008 Noida Double Murder Case. This case shocked the whole nation because of the mysteries hidden inside it. Neither  the local police nor the CBI came to an satisfied conclusion to this murder mystery yet (in 2022). Writer Vishal Bhardwaj did an amazing job in writing down all the perspectives revolving around this case without manipulating the facts. The suspense of this movie is truly unmatched and this movie also questions the slow as well as corrupt side of the indian administrations.

I recommend this movie to those students willing to work upon crime beat in journalism as Noida double murder case itself is a case study for journalism students. And it’s a gem of a movie to those as well who are looking for a career in script writing as the beauty to showcase facts with all this possible outcomes is a thing which young generation should learn from Vishal Bhardwaj.

·         3. Sarkaar Trilogy | https://youtu.be/x2k-IxVHApQ

Sarkar trilogy is truly a master piece of Indian cinema in terms of political drama thriller. It is a story of Subhaash Nagre (Sarkar). Subhash nagre is an extremely powerful person with both political and mafia approach. The story revolves around that how he face different obstacles usually other politicians and other gangs , how he eliminates them all one by one to remain on the top. This movie very efficiently portrays that dirty politics can become in order to sustain on the top of the order other than it’s a great thriller too with tremendous acting performances of Amitabh Bachchan, K.K Menon, Abhishekh Bachchan and others

I recommend this movie series to those students who have keen interst in politics and how mafia raj as well as big shot business houses directly or indirectly affects the political scenario.

·        4. Section 375 | https://youtu.be/UWjxS8EJ4Z8

Courtroom drama is Bollywood’s favourite formula that is tried-and-tested. With power-packed punchlines, influential lawyers fighting high-profile cases, and the verdict mostly giving out a strong message, courtroom tales are known to be gripping. And, therefore, it’s no surprise how Section 375 , based on Section 375 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), effortlessly manages to register its presence in the minds of people. Directed by Ajay Bahl with actors Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha in pivotal roles, it’s surely a brave and relevant film that tackles a rather complex issue of laws made to protect women, and the very same laws being misused by women for their vested interest. The way narrative switches from one person’s point of view to another’s, presents both sides of the story.

I recommend this movie to those students who have keen interest in controversial topics as this movie itself was based upon the then famous controversy “#metoo” . Article 375 ,movie is full of thrill and maintains the point of view of both sides till the end and the ending will surely blow your mind.

·        5. Rajneeti | https://youtu.be/e8pV8VmiHkQ

It's a bloody battle for political power between the rival claimants of the Pratap family. When the venerable elder suffers a paralytic stroke, the seat of power automatically shifts to his younger brother, much to the discomfiture of his son.  The film basically anchors its plot in two classic tales “The Mahabharata and The Godfather” to create an engrossing diatribe on India's political system where democracy may prevail, but not in its purest form. Dynasty, lawlessness, violence and misuse of power are the ugly underbelly of India's not so clean political framework where the battle for the ballot is waged almost like war (unprincipled, belligerent and bloody).

I recommend this movie to those students willing to work under poltical environment as each scene of this scene unfolds a different political concept. And this movie shows some hidden insights of big political houses too.

·    6. Rangde Basanti | https://youtu.be/QHhnhqxB4E8

In 2006, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and writer Kamlesh Pandey created a different brand of nationalistic fervour amongst Indian audiences with their film Rang De Basanti. With a cleverly scripted non-linear style of narration, director Mehra takes us on an inspiring journey of self-discovery and courage while rekindling the fiery spark of passion for and pride in one’s homeland. As he blurs the line between the past and the present, the protagonists literally and figuratively breathe the essence of the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the nation.

I recommend this movie to all the students no matter which particular field they have interest in, couse this movie is a very beautiful blend of nationalism, history, corruption, and entertainment. Acting performances of all the actors associated with this movie is truly remarkable.

·       7. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro | https://youtu.be/kqWjQWbBeHI

Director Kundan Shah’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, an exceptionally entertaining satire, is a near perfect film. Its genre of black comedy was a rarity of the era. Despite that, the movie had clear relatable and engaging points that led to its cult status. The story is at times dark and layered, at times pure comedy. But at no point does it stray away from its heart – a sharp satire on corruption.

This movie is recommended to viewers of all age categories as this movie is truly a master piece of indian cinema as whole. How to pinpoint some very sensitive topics is what kundan shah’s directions shows to the world. This movie is full of satire and dark humor with a very straight forward and harsh approach towards Indian system.
